The AUTO-SLED is a portable automated tool used to flatten material such as a plain sawn slab of wood. The AUTO-SLED rides along a worksurface, such as a work bench or rails, and guides a router with a surfacing bit over the material at a fixed height to create a flat surface on the top side. It starts on one end of the material and works its way down at the speed and cutting width set by the operator. Once setup and running, the AUTO-SLED can be left to run on its own and will stop automatically when it reaches the end of the material or in the event of a jam.
